# kud.io

> Personal site of Erwann Mest (kud), a systems designer and lead software engineer in London: his writing and the catalogue of open-source software he builds — web apps, CLIs, MCP servers, Claude Code tools, libraries, editor and browser extensions.

[beansontoast.app](https://beansontoast.app) is the umbrella for Erwann's web apps; some still run on older addresses, so the Apps section links each one to wherever it runs today. Every other project links to its page on kud.io, which renders the repository's README and, where the project has them, multi-page docs under `/projects/<slug>/docs`. Source code lives on GitHub under [kud](https://github.com/kud).

Project pages and docs are synced from each repository, so the repository is the source of truth when the two disagree.

## Apps
- [smartTV for Browser](https://smart-tv-for-browser.vercel.app): A smart-TV home screen that runs in your browser — boot animation, D-pad and all.
- [Your Move](https://move.beansontoast.app): A GitHub inbox for what moved, and whose move it is — on every device.
- [Referrals](https://referrals.kud.io): Every referral code I use, in one place — sign up through one and we both get the perk.
- [Planning Poker](https://planning-poker.beansontoast.app): Estimate user stories together in real time — free, and no account required.
- [Globetrotter](https://globetrotter.kud.io): Your personal atlas. Track where you've been, learn as you go, plan what's next.
- [Brit Ready](https://brit-ready.kud.io): A gamified way to prepare for the Life in the UK Test — and to know when you're actually ready.

## Site
- [Home](https://kud.io): Who Erwann is, his experience and focus.
- [Projects](https://kud.io/projects): The full catalogue, grouped by kind.
- [Writing](https://kud.io/blog): Notes on systems, tooling, and the trade-offs behind them.

## Writing
- [A road trip that fits in one tab](https://kud.io/blog/2026/10/22/a-road-trip-that-fits-in-one-tab): 2026-10-22 — I built a private travel companion around a Notion itinerary: map, bookings, offline data and a timeline that distinguishes a hard deadline from an afternoon with room to wander. Using it for a week changed the data model as much as the interface.
- [Your Move: a GitHub inbox that tells you whose turn it is](https://kud.io/blog/2026/10/07/your-move-a-github-inbox-that-tells-you-whose-turn-it-is): 2026-10-07 — Your Move reads GitHub live and lays every repository out as one line: what moved, and whether the next step is yours. It works on a phone, needs nothing but a GitHub sign-in, and keeps no copy of your data.
- [Making opencode look like the rest of my terminal](https://kud.io/blog/2026/09/30/making-opencode-look-like-the-rest-of-my-terminal): 2026-09-30 — opencode's docs stop at themes and keybinds. Underneath there's a plugin system that can redraw parts of the interface, and with it I got a transparent theme, my Claude Code statusline, and syntax colours for shell scripts, which opencode 1.18 shows as plain text.
- [Letting Claude Code name its own sessions](https://kud.io/blog/2026/09/29/claude-code-session-names): 2026-09-29 — Starting Claude Code sessions with a fixed name left my resume picker full of identical rows. A UserPromptSubmit hook can set the session title, so now the model that already knows the subject picks the name, and the hook applies it, at no extra model call.
- [Three fences around a secret](https://kud.io/blog/2026/09/04/three-fences-around-a-secret): 2026-09-04 — Coding agents read files for a living. Permission rules, hooks and a scanner each catch a leak the other two miss.
- [How to easily debug a shorthand return](https://kud.io/blog/2021/02/01/debug-a-shorthand-return): 2021-02-01 — like a map().

- [How to edit a markdown in 2020, part 2: the different editors](https://kud.io/blog/2020/05/11/markdown-editing-2-editors): 2020-05-11 — Typora, Mark Text, VSCode, etc.
- [How to edit a markdown in 2020, part 1: zmv](https://kud.io/blog/2020/05/10/markdown-editing-1-zmv): 2020-05-10 — Sorry .mdx but I renamed you.
